Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson an ironworker who had been employed for a considerable period as housekeeper. Nancy was the eldest child of six. Nancy was a child who listened to the records of her father and his enthusiasm for music. Nancy knew that she was going to be a musician at the age of just four years old. She began developing her skills by performing in the church choir. After high school the singer began appearing often on Skyline Melodies. She was fifteen when she won the television talent show. In the same year, she began to perform in nightclubs. Nancy was 17 when she had graduated high school, and then matriculated in Ohio Central State College (now Central State University) for a year before quitting to sing. In 1956 she made her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with Rusty Bryant from 1956 through 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she relocate to New York so as to enhance her career. In 1959, Nancy moved in The Big Town. In just a few months, she was offered a job singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her, and she was signed. In 1960, he enlisted her to Capitol Records and in that the same year, she debuted her debut single. Guess whom I saw this morning. Capitol has released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley and their 1962 collaboration helped her reach the top. She had her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth by 1963. Following that year, this led to her being invited to the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
